Gin Rummy
Gin Rummy is a great rummy game that offers an excellent gameplay because it has special and easy rules that can be understood by any card player. Gin Rummy is very popular among the card games players because it has a history of over 2 centuries. The name of this game came from the inventor which had a passion for the gin drinks.
Gin Rummy is a game that can be played between 2-4 players by using a single deck of cards without jockers. If it’s a game betweek 2 players, then each one will receive 10 cards but if it’s a game for 4 players, then each one will receive 7 cards. This rummy game has goal to form many melds from all the cards in hand (sets and runs). More exactly:
- a set means 3 or more cards from the same rank;
- a run means 3 or more consecutive cards from the same suit.
Gin Rummy consists of two major moves:
- drawing a card from the deck or from the top card of the discard pile;
- discarding a card to the discard pile.
Like we said before, the goal of the Gin Rummy game is to meld all the cards in hand, but it also has another objective that makes this game different than others: the players must try to lower the amount of deadwoon to a minimum. We must mention that “deadwood” means the cards that can’t be melded.
Gin Rummy ends when all the players manage to lay down all the cards into valid melds and discard the last card (gin), when a player lays down melds and has a deadwood value lower/equal than ten (knock), or when a player knocks and his opponents manage to add cards to the knocker’s melds (the opponents having a lower deadwood count than the knocker’s).
Except for the deadwoon count, the Gin Rummy game is pretty similar to the traditional rummy, so you won’t have problems in playing it. You will love this game because it’s very attractive and because it brings lots of fun.
